Longshoremen's Guild
Description Longshoremen were the sorts who helped captains load and unload their ships. Although Dargon had a good harbor, it was remote from other ports and the shipping schedule was erratic. The Longshoremen's Guild developed to look out for the Longshoremen's interests and prevent ship captains or merchants from being able to drive pay rates down by making the men bid against one another for work. It did this by controlling how many men would offer their services on any particular job. The Guild's control of the work made it vulnerable to many corrupting influences, including unscrupulous merchants, slippery ship captains, and enterprising criminal masterminds. Most folks in Dargon saw little reason to believe that the Guild hadn't succumbed to these temptations repeatedly.
