Why Join DargonZine?
24 years of collaborative writing has taught us a thing or two...
DargonZine was established in December of 1984. That makes us the longest-running ezine on the Internet. During that time we've had wars, withstood floods, and gone through an evil mage or two. We've helped numerous authors improve their writing, make new friends, and add their own unique stamp to the shared world. Here are a few of the reasons we think you should join:
A Strong Community.
DargonZine was one of the first social-networking sites, started before
there was even a word to describe social-networking sites. Our writers
share their knowledge and creativity with one another, serve as
springboards for ideas, and motivators for "blocked" writers.Mentoring.
Every new writer is assigned a mentor. This mentor will help you
get acquainted with the world of the Dargon Project and offer advice on
how to integrate your ideas into the shared world. An Existing World.
Writing fantasy can be exhilarating. Every story has the potential to establish its own
universe. Sometimes, however, that freedom creates such a tangle of world rules,
society structure, magic system definition, etcetera that we lose ourselves
in the process. The world of the Dargon Project provides an infrastructure so that you
can focus more on your plot development, dialog or scene construction. But
it's still a big world, and there are plenty of areas to flesh out or
define.
Peer Review.
Every story submitted to the group undergoes a peer review where each
author gives their opinion on the story and can offer advice on how it can
be improved or how it can better integrate into the Dargonverse through existing characters or places. And for those
who have trouble with reviews, we have a critique form that can be used
to offer solid, concrete feedback.Top-rate Tools.
DargonZine was born before there was an Internet, but we've kept up with
technology and even created custom tools to help our writers. We have forums,
e-mail lists, an innovative Online Glossary, and a wiki to help keep our
world in order. We'll even have a publishing outlet on Amazon's Kindle store before the year's end! It's Free!
It's free to join and participate in DargonZine. We simply ask that a year
after being published in the zine, and if you're still a member, that you pay a nominal due. Until
then, it's free, and we even have a tiered rate for students. You can read
more about membership dues here.
