[Dargon-writers-list] Update: Forum Post Notifier 1.0

Update: Apparently the closing parentheses screwed up the link in Step
1 of my directions. Here is the corrected address:

http://www.dargonzine.org/dpww/forum/index.php

Secondly, in terms of what to test?

1) Posting in child boards
2) Posting a long item (like a story)
3) Creating a post and then replying to it

Those are the main things. There isn't much to test with this, I'd
just like to get a number of folks to try it so that it isn't just
me. :)

Thanks,

Hello all,

As I mentioned in my status report, I commissioned a developer to
create a program for the DPWW forums that will e-mail every post and
every reply to a specific e-mail address.

That e-mail address is a special mailing list that users can subscribe
to. Subscribing to this e-mail list means you do not have to use or
set-up any special notifications in the DPWW Forum. Subscribing to
this e-mail list will send you every post and every reply to a post
created in the DPWW.

We have 5 days to approve this program before it is considered
"complete" and the developer will require payment. Therefore, I would
like your help in testing it.

To subscribe to the mailing list, visit this address and enter the
required information:

http://dargonzine.org/mailman/listinfo/dargon-forum-notifier_dargonzine.org

Next, you will probably want to disable some settings in the DPWW
forum so that you don't get double e-mails whenever someone posts.
Please perform the following steps:

1. Log in to the DPWW Forum http://www.dargonzine.org/dpww/forum/index.php
2. In the upper left-hand corner of the screen, you will see a bar
that contains the links HOME HELP SEARCH etc. Click on the link
labeled PROFILE. Your DPWW Forum profile will be displayed.
3. On the left-hand side of the screen will be a vertical list of
links under the words PROFILE INFO and MODIFY PROFILE. Click on the
link labeled NOTIFICATIONS AND EMAIL. You will see a screen listing
your notification preferences.
4. Remove the checkbox next to the setting TURN NOTIFICATION ON WHEN
YOU POST OR REPLY TO A TOPIC. This will keep the DPWW Forum from
sending you an e-mail when someone replies to a new post of yours.
5. Note the section on this screen that says CURRENT TOPIC
NOTIFICATIONS. These are a list of all topics in the DPWW that you are
subscribed to and receive notifications for. To prevent e-mails from
these topics, put a check next to all the entries in the list and then
click on the button labeled UNSUBSCRIBE. Note that there may be
multiple pages of items you are subscribed to. You should unsubscribe
from every topic to prevent double-mailings.
6. Perform the same steps you did above for the section CURRENT BOARD
NOTIFICATIONS. These are boards within DPWW that you may have
subscribed to.

You will now only receive mailings from the Forum-Notifier list.

Rules for the Forum-Notifier list:
=========================

1. You cannot choose which boards or topics you subscribe to with this
list. It will e-mail EVERYTHING that is posted in the DPWW forums.
2. You cannot reply to the Forum-Notifier-List via e-mail and have it
appear in DPWW. You must go to the board to reply. A link is provided
to take you to the topic.
3. All e-mails will contain the full text of the post.
4. ALL posts and replies are sent to the list, even your own.
5. The sender of the post is displayed in the title of the e-mail. It
is the username the person uses in the DPWW Forum.

Please try to post a few things and see if it works. I'm bankrolling
this modification and I do not want to have to get the developer
involved later at further expense.

Thank you!
