Subject: [Dargon-writers-list] Strange Publicity Stunt

Okay,

So I kind of have a strange publicity stunt idea in my head. One that, if it works, would drive a TON of people to our website. I don't know if it would do us any good, but it would certainly garner us exposure and provide some grounds for Wikipedia to keep our entry in their database (Wikipedia has this strange concept of Notability, which means an entry needs to have been mentioned by major news outlets, etc.).

Do any of you watch The Daily Show with John Stewart or the Colbert Rapport? If you do, you know that Stephen Colbert is always trying to do something off the wall -- getting a little league team mascot named after him, a bridge named after him, etc. You also know that Stephen is a big Lord of the Rings fan and played Dungeons & Dragons once.

What if... What if we wrote to the Colbert Rapport and told them we were going to name a kingdom in the "Unknown Lands" portion of Cherisk after him? And have a ruler who looked a little like Stephen Colbert? We could provide a brief passage, etc. to send to them, along with a map. We'd also mention we're the longest running e-zine on the internet, been in existence for 24 years, etc.

I think it would be something he'd eat up. Like announce it on air.

We would get a ton of hits from his fans, which would translate into a major amount of exposure.

What do you guys think?
