Whoops. Fixed now, thanks!
Well, if you're mid-production, I'd say just finish up the old way.
That way when we start the last issue of 2008, we can start from the
beginning. I have scripts right now that take 2 seconds to run and fix
up an old issue, so it's not hard for me.
I'm going to write up a brief explanation of what I'm doing. The
biggest changes are:
- use of includes for story headers and footers
- use of XHTML mark-up instead of HTML, which has a few of its own rules
The upshot of all this is that when we make changes to the site
design, it'll filter through all issues (current and previous) without
us having to run scripts. At least, that's the plan. :)
I, also, think we should go back to the previous issues and convert
them. It'll make everything much more uniform and professional
looking. The one hitch in helping you convert is that I use a Mac and
I'm pretty sure you use a PC. The scripts I have are Applescripts,
which only work on the mac. Sorry -- I'm just not that adept at PERL
or anything else. It's actually incredibly quick for me to convert the
old issues, although I have to make tweaks as I go further and further
back.
I've actually got everything converted back to volume 15 already, I
just want to talk to you and Orn about possibly changing the directory
structure of the current site. While having everything in the document
root is incredibly handy, it also makes it a little messy. I'd like to
move issues and stories into an issues/volumes folder structure, but
that has implications with the MySQL/Access database pointers.
More to come!
